Hi. My name is Kerry Mihalik. I am 33 years old. I have been married
to Joseph Mihalik for over 6 years. We are raising two amazing
children. I have a 16 year-old daughter named Vanessa who is
incredibly funny, beautiful and talented. And we have a 3 year-old
boy named Ryan who's been diagnosed with autistic disorder and he's a
great artist already! I am currently a stay at home wife and mother.
Both of my kids go to school in which I must drive them, so that alone
keeps me very busy. I am a trained social worker, got my master's
from the University of Pittsburgh. I am pretty disillusioned my the
field and am glad that I am not currently working in it. I studied
for the undergraduate degree at Carlow College (University) which was
the best education experience of my life. I earned a degree in
English Literature and studied Women's Studies in depth. I was the
editor of the college newspaper while at Carlow and that was a
wonderful experience. I love the open exchange of ideas! I miss that
in my life! I hope this group can provide that. I love reading
other's work. I don't know how good I am at being critical but I know
how to give great praise! I think good women writers need to hear
that. Most of my interest in writing revolves around those things in
life that I've personally experienced; marriage, women's issues, my
son's disability, raising a young woman, having an affair, having a
mentally ill mother. So I write from the heart. I am NOT a trained
creative writer. I can't write poetry. I write journal entries,
blogs, and personal observations. My absolute dream would be to write
a book about my life and all the things I've went through. Maybe, who
knows.

Cool to be a part of something intellectual again, isn't it, ker? Glad we're both here.

Those are my favorite kinds of writing--things that come from the heart and from real feelings and experiences. Writing is one of those things where training and classes mean next to nothing because you can have talent without any of that.

Welcome once again, Ker. I can't wait to see what you're doing...and if it's a deadline you need, I have a little deadline experience under my belt from writing for the Valley News...so I'll can see what I can do...Wink
That does make me wonder if we shouldn't try some structured timeline for certain prompts on here -- are we liking the prompt thing, btw? I am the queen of needing a kick in the ass, just ask my workshop teacher...so I'd be up for it.
